Collin County I, JONAS DAWSON being of sound mind and
memory and considering the uncertainty of life and the certainty [of] death do
make and ordain this my last will and testament. First, I give and bequeath to
my beloved wife CHARITY DAWSON the homestead upon which we now reside
containing about 287 acres be the same more or less together with all and
singular the appurtences thereunto belonging to use and enjoy the full benefit
thereof during her natural life, or so long as she may remain my widow, and
after her death or the expiration of her widow hood, it is my will that my
estate be divided equally between my four children, to wit: DANIEL D. DAWSON,
JAMES D. DAWSON, NANCY HUFF AND SALLIE A. DAWSON, or their surviving heirs. I
also give and bequeath to my beloved wife 4 head of horses to wit, a small bay
mare named Betsey, a sorrel two year old filly known as Betsy’s filly, a young
roan horse called Crocket and one Iron grey 3 year old horse, also the home
cattle comprising about 24 head, also 3 yoke of oxen and one ox wagon, also all
the farming utensils household and kitchen furniture &c. to use and enjoy
the full benefit thereof upon the condition above specified for the land. I
also give and bequeath to my beloved wife 276 acres of timbered land being a
part of the headright survey of Thomas Linsey situated on the waters of the
East Fork of the…

…Trinity River to be disposed of after her death or the
expiration of her widowhood as above specified for the homestead, also the
stock hogs which I know own. I give and bequeath to my beloved daughter SALLIE
A. DAWSON 84 acres of land being that part of my headright survey which I
conveyed to DANIEL D. DAWSON and which the said Daniel D. Dawson after
reconveyed to me. I also give and bequeath to her the said SALLY A. DAWSON one
sorrel yearling filly known as Pet’s filley (sic) and one yearling white muly
heifer together with their increase. The remainder of my property after selling
sufficiency thereof for the payment of my lawful debts I wish to be equally
divided between my four beloved children to wit: DANIEL D. DAWSON, JAMES D.
DAWSON, NANCY HUFF and SALLIE A. DAWSON share and share alike. I desire that
there be no action had upon my estate in the probate court further than to have
this my last will and testament probated and an inventory of my property
returned.
In
testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 27th day of
January 1864.
